Scheme for Salt Worker- Training for Technology upgradation (DIPP)

The salt artisan are still following primitive methods and layout of the Salt works is out dated. The training is, therefore, necessary to demonstrate before them to produce good quality salt with high yield per acre under the given climatic conditions. The Scheme was launched in the year 2012-13.

Objectives:

To give training to salt workers to inculcate modern salt technology so as to improve the quality and quantity of salt produced.

Features:

  • The salt artisan are still following primitive methods and layout of the Salt works is out dated. The training is, therefore, necessary to demonstrate before them to produce good quality salt with high yield per acre under the given climatic conditions.
  • The objective of the scheme is to give training to salt workers to inculcate modern salt technology so as to improve the quality and quantity of salt produced.
  • During the training 20 master trainers are given training for a period of 5 days on Chemistry of salt manufacturing, design and layout of salt works, washing of solar salt, value addition through bittern processing, semi mechanization of solar salt works, analytical techniques and soil analysis, fortification of solar salt with iodine and iron and industrial safety and hazard management in Salt Industry.
  • Two training prgrammes for master trainers as above have been organized by CSMCRI, Bhavnagar.
  • In the second stage, these master trainers have imparted training to salt workers/artisans in their respective state in local language. In each such training programme 30 salt artisans are imparted training.
  • The cost of conducting each training programme for master trainers is Rs 5 lakh and for salt artisans Rs. 3 lakh.
